저희 기관은 지난 수년간 유엔 출판부(UN Publications)에서 발간한 공식 도서를 한국어로 번역하며, 국내 청소년들이 세계시민의식과 지속가능발전목표(SDGs)에 쉽게 다가갈 수 있도록 다양한 교육자료를 제공해 왔습니다.
이번에는 이러한 활동을 한 단계 확장하여, 유엔 본부의 공식 허가 아래 시각장애 아동·청소년을 위한 SDGs 오디오북 제작 프로젝트를 진행하였습니다.
왜 오디오북인가?
이번 프로젝트는 SDG 4(양질의 교육)와 SDG 10(불평등 감소)을 실현하기 위한 중요한 실천이자, 모든 아동이 정보에 동등하게 접근할 수 있는 사회를 만드는 데 기여하는 포용적 교육 프로젝트입니다. 특히 《세상을 바꾸는 프리다(Frieda Makes a Difference)》는 유엔 본부에서 직접 제작한 공식 도서로, 아동의 권리, 지속가능발전, 그리고 세계시민으로서의 책임을 다루고 있습니다. 이 책을 오디오북으로 제작함으로써 그동안 인쇄물이나 시각 자료 접근에 어려움을 겪었던 시각장애 아동들도 세계시민교육의 중요한 메시지를 동등하게 누릴 수 있게 되었습니다.
장애·비장애 청소년이 함께 만든 ‘협력의 가치’
이번 오디오북은 단순히 텍스트를 음성으로 녹음하는 행위를 넘어, 청소년들이 직접 목소리를 기부하고, 편집·해설에 참여한 청소년 주도형(Youth-led) 프로젝트의 결과물입니다. 장애와 비장애의 구분을 넘어 서로의 교육 접근성을 확장하고, 함께 SDGs를 실천하고자 하는 청소년들의 자발적 참여가 핵심 요소입니다.

For the past several years, our organization has translated official publications of the United Nations into Korean to support global citizenship education for students in Korea. This year, we have taken our work a step further by completing the 'Voices of Global Citizenship: SDGs Audiobooks for All' project for blind and visually impaired children, produced under official permission from the United Nations Headquarters.
The audiobook was created to advance SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities, ensuring that all children—regardless of disability—can access essential knowledge about global issues, human rights, and the SDGs. “Frieda Makes a Difference” is an official UN publication, originally published by UN Publications, and contains key messages on children’s rights, sustainability, and global citizenship. By producing this book in an audio format, we aim to ensure that students with visual impairments gain equal access to global citizenship education.
This audiobook is more than a recording—it is a collaborative project created with the active participation of Korean youth. Students contributed their voices, narration, and production support, making this an inclusive initiative that bridges the gap between disabled and non-disabled learners.
